In late 2024, OLG quietly released their latest results for the 2023/24 period. Though we have more recent data from iGaming Ontario, we wanted to go back and look at the combined online gaming performance from both parties for the 2023/24 year to get an overall picture for the regulated Ontario iGaming market. For the purposes of clarity, we are looking at all iGaming Ontario verticals, iCasino, iSports betting and iPoker. From OLG, we take into iCasino and iSports Betting, but ignore iLottery.
Ontario's regulated iGaming market has continued to expand significantly in the 2023–24 fiscal year, with both iGaming Ontario (iGO) and the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) contributing to a dynamic and competitive landscape. The market’s combined performance in online casino gaming and sports betting underscores its growing importance to the province’s economy, with total gaming revenue suring $2.96 billion.
According to Ontario sports betting ed for approximately 24%, with peer-to-peer poker representing the remainder.
While iGO’s figures highlight the rapid expansion of Ontario’s privately operated online gaming sector, OLG continues to hold a significant stake in the province’s digital gaming ecosystem. OLG, as a crown corporation, operates its own online casino and sports betting platform alongside its other gaming operations. For the 2023–24 fiscal year, OLG reported $508 million in net gaming revenue from its online casino and sports betting offerings. This represents a notable portion of the province’s total regulated iGaming market, despite the dominance of private operators licensed under iGO.
When combined, the full scope of Ontario’s iGaming market—ing for both iGO and OLG—shows a total gaming revenue of approximately $2.96 billion for the fiscal year. While OLG’s share of total wagers is small relative to the private operators, its share of gaming revenue stands at 17.2%, demonstrating its continued relevance in a competitive environment. This market structure, with OLG maintaining a strong presence while allowing private competition to thrive, has contributed to Ontario’s emergence as a leading jurisdiction for regulated online gaming in North America.
The year-over-year growth of both OLG and iGO suggests that Ontario’s iGaming market remains on an upward trajectory. iGaming Ontario’s reported 78% increase in total wagers and 75% growth in gaming revenue illustrate the increasing engagement of players with regulated operators. At the same time, OLG saw a 13% increase in its digital gaming revenue from casino and sports betting verticals, reinforcing its role in the broader market.
This expansion reflects a broader trend of Ontarians embracing regulated online gaming, driven in part by the availability of licensed operators, responsible gambling measures, and the province’s push to offer a legal and competitive alternative to the unregulated market. With iGO continuing to welcome new operators and OLG maintaining steady growth in its digital segment, and continuing efforts to improve their product offering, the Ontario iGaming market is positioned for sustained development in the years ahead.
