Yesterday, the relative newcomer "grey market" online sports betting and casino brand for the Canadian market, Bet99, which is known for its marketing partnerships with MMA legend Georges St-Pierre and 2022 NHL Hart Trophy Winner Auston Matthews, was granted its license to operate in the Ontario market by the AGCO. This license increases the potential number of legal Ontario betting sites to over 20.
The Toronto Star reported in December of 2021 that "Bet99 is expected to be among the expected wave of sportsbook and online casino businesses applying to the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario and iGaming Ontario for a license to operate in the province."
Bet99 was the 45th iGaming brand to receive an operator license. Bet99 continues to serve the rest of Canada, outside Ontario, from the sovereign First Nations territory of Kahnawake.
On May 25, 2022, the holding company for Bet99 announced that it would be merging with "Kings Entertainment".
